This component only renders on the live storefront when the cart has an active discount — it stays hidden otherwise (always visible on canvas for layout).
When it shows
On the live site, Cart Subtotal Compare only renders once a discount is active — it's meant to sit next to Cart Subtotal as the "before" price, so it hides itself when there's nothing to compare against. On canvas it's always visible so you can design the layout without needing a live discounted cart.
How the compare price is calculated
The "before" price isn't a number Shopify hands over directly — Butter adds up the cart using the same per-item prices your price components display, including any price set by a Recipe.
In practice this means two things: the compare price always agrees with the prices shown elsewhere on your site, and it can differ slightly from the raw subtotal in your Shopify admin when a Recipe has changed a price. That's expected, not a bug.
